Accomodations on Long Beach Island, New Jersey – Hotels, Motels, Bed and Breakfasts on LBI

Long Beach Island offers a variety of accommodations including seasonal and weekly house rentals, bed and breakfasts, guest houses, hotels and motels.

• Barnegat Light – Barnegat Light has a few Bed and Breakfasts as well as a couple of Motels.

• Beach Haven. – Most of the grander Victorian Buildings on the Island are in Beach Haven with some in Barnegat Light. A number of these are Bed and breakfasts. In addition there are several older guest houses from the era. For those who like their modern conveniences, there are also newer hotels. 

• Long Beach Township – There are a number of small hotels throughout the township. In addition many of the homeowners offer their homes for rent or the homes are duplexes with apartments. 

• Ship Bottom –  Ship Bottom has a few hotels. Most of the accommodations would be private residences and apartments

• Surf City – The Surf City Hotel is here. If you want to stay in Surf City and the hotel is full, you’ll need to look for a private residence rental or apartment. 

There are no large chain hotels on the island although there is a Holiday Inn on Route 72 in Manahawkin.

Apartments and Homes for Rent

There are countless homes and apartments for rent on LBI. The availability of inexpensive apartments has been decreasing as the Real Estate market has shifted toward more luxurious homes. The usual weekly rentals run from Saturday to Saturday. It is not unusual to encounter some long delays coming on to or leaving the island during a tenant changeover weekend.

Each municipality has it’s own regulations regarding apartment rentals. In some cases the homeowner must apply for a permit and is subject to inspection. In other towns no rental permit is required.

Tips on finding a rental apartment or vacation home.

• Some homeowners will offer their summer rentals via the Internet, paper , or a sign on their lawn. others will only rent through a real estate agent.  You need to start very early in the year if you want to find a good seashore rental.

• The island is not very wide.  And most you’ll have about four blocks to walk to the beach.  Keep in mind that the boulevard is extremely busy.  Crossing without the benefit of a traffic light can be risky.   

• Most of the townships have enacted strict noise ordinances.  However if you rent nearing local nightspot be prepared for traffic and some inebriated clientele.
