Long Beach Township Long Beach Township is split into several sections on the island. The 1940’s and 50’s saw a huge increase in development. Builders such as Frank Muth turned out hundreds of affordable Cape Cod Style homes. Most of these were intended strictly as summer cottages and not for year round living. A hot water heater was a luxury. Many homes had outside showers with a black painted tank to heat the water somewhat from the summer sun. Many of the streets were unpaved. The scene below shows two newer Cape Cods with an older house by the bay. All three of the houses have been torn down and replaced with modern homes. A 1940’s scene in North Beach Haven, NJ
