Chowderfest | lbiviews
Late September/Early October
The annual Chowderfest is held at the Taylor Avenue Ballfield which is next to the Schooner’s Wharf and Bay Village. Saturday is a “Merchant’s Mart” and Sunday is the great Chowder cook off. There is an admission fee for the Chowder Tasting. This is a HUGE event so get your reservation early and arrive early
We visited chowderfest in 2011. Since we only lives about 10 blocks away we opted to walk rather than fight the crowds looking for parking. They take cash and major credit cards however you can get in much more quickly if you purchase your tickets in advance. When you enter, about half of the field is a vendor stalls. The other half is devoted to the chowder tasting tents.
One very important tool is to have chowder cup holder. This is essentially a board about the size of an artist’s pallet within about 1/2 dozen holes to hold the chowder cups. This allows one person to go to a stand and come back with chowder samples for the group. There are several areas for the red and white chowders.
When you enter, you are giving a token that will allow you to vote as you exit for your favorite chowder.
In spite of being extremely crowded, the event is very family friendly.
