| Long Beach Island boasts excellent boating. There is access to the ocean via Barnegat Inlet to the north and little Egg Inlet to the south. Both inlets have their quirks and, in our opinion, Barnegat Inlet can turn downright nasty. For bay boating, LBI has one of the widest, deepest bays along the Jersey Shore. If you are going to boat or fish there get a current chart. There are numerous marinas and yacht clubs. If you trailer your boat, there are a number of launching ramps. In addition, there are still some places where you can rent a boat. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of restaurants accessible by boat. Morrison’s and the Dutchman’s come to mind. We also spent many afternoons traveling up Tuckerton Creek to the Stewart’s Root Beer at the very end of the creek. If you have the time, boat and skill, you can make a run to Atlantic City. The big choice you face is whether to go outside (via the ocean) or inside (via the intracoastal waterway). If you choose to go via the intracoastal, a chart and decent navigation skills are a must since the channel is quite narrow in spots. | 23′ Penn Yan at anchor |
There are a number of charter and party boats available at Beach Haven and Barnegat Light.
