Barnegat Light is at the far north of the island. It is known for it’s famous lighthouse and fleet of fishing boats.

Barnegat inlet can be challenging to say the least. Just north of Barnegat Light is Island Beach State Park. There is no bridge or causeway on the north end of the island.

There is a small museum on the boulevard that houses the first order Fresnel lens from the lighthouse along with other memorabilia. At one time Barnegat Light was the northern end of the railroad that ran on Long Beach Island. There were several hotels such as the Oceanic and Sunset that have long since disappeared.

  • Barnegat Light Dining – Mostly casual dining

  • Barnegat Light Accommodations.- A few hotels and bed and breakfasts and the ubiquitous vacation rentals.

  • Barnegat Lighthouse – Visit this great park for fishing or nature watching or to enjoy the fantastic view from the top of the lighthouse. .

  • Barnegat Light Nightlife

    Barnegat Light is a borough. The only service it doesn’t provide is a police force which is contracted through Long Beach Township. For more information, please visit the Borough of Barnegat Light’s website. There you will find: a calendar of events, library information, info on garbage and recycling, information on beaches and parks as well as beach badges, the municipal code and more. 

    Many of the beaches are private and beach access may be limited.

The old Coast Guard Station at Barnegat Light

Above is the Old Coast Guard Station at Barnegat Light. It isn’t open to the public and remember, it is Federal property.  Below is an old engraving of Barnegat Inlet circa the late 1800’s.
